Plants in the Arizona Desert
. Plants like the yucca, cactus, and barrel cactus all store water so they can survive in the desert where there is very little rainfall. They also have very sharp thorns to stop animals from eating them.
Barrel Cactus

The barrel cactus is a part of the cactus family. Some common names for the barrel cactus are the Arizona barrel, The Candy barrel, and the Bisnaga. It can get up to 5 feet high and 2 feet wide. Its flowers bloom in the summer time and are usually yellow or orange yellow. It is in the sun all of the time.
Yucca

The yucca grows in southwestern areas of America and Mexico. There are at least 40 species of yucca plants. The yucca is used to make medicine for joint pain. The yucca plant can treat migraine headaches, gout, colitis, wounds, ect. The yucca plant roots are good for making soap.
Saguaro Cactus

Saguaro plants grow in hot or tropical areas where there is less rainfall. Saguaro are in the Cactaceae family. Its physiological features helps it conserve water and survive in harsh conditions. Saguaro have more than 2,000 varieties of colors. A Saguaro can have up to 25 arms (branches). With good growing conditions a Saguaro can live up to 150-200 years old.
